NaBloPoMo – Day 8

“Just keep swimmin’, just keep swimmin’.”
Dory, Finding Nemo

Some days, you just have to keep swimmin’.   Even now, I’m just pushing myself through 5 minutes of this, and 5 minutes of that.  Plugging away.

Next on my project list is to actually decorate our home.  We’ve lived here for almost 11 years.  We renovated the main floor 4 or 5 years ago (has it been that long?).  We put up our wedding picture back up last week.  We were so proud.  Now it’s time to do something with the rest of our house.  We’re great with the functional stuff, but prettifying?  Not so much.

Anyone have suggestions on how to start?

  1. //

Yes – go get paint swatches at the store and first decide on the color palette you want first – then work backwards towards the furniture – or another way is come up with something that you want to be the inspiration for the room – a painting a vase a jewelry box and work off of that to decide the color palette and then appropriate furnishings.

  2. //

Or you can decide on a theme for the room – doesn’t have to be kitchy – you can decide you want one room to remind you of sunshine for instance or you can decide you both like the mod style of furniture or modern style of furniture or asian influenced modern furniture – whatever you decide and then use that one decision to be the central theme of your room and then work off of that to decide colors and furniture

or another way is to go see model homes – take paint swatches and your camera – they always have them decorated so nice and you might see a room you really like and can duplicate for the most part

Or I decide what I need that room to accomplish and how I want to feel in that room and I decide on furniture and colors that give me that feeling and allow me to do all the things I need in the room – like a bedroom where you want a very comfortable bed and great closet organization like those are your most important qualifications – so then I start with one piece either the furniture or the closet organizers and work backwards a bit at a time – takes time but then the design is truly yours

And I also give myself a budget per room at the beginning so I know what I can spend $$$ on and what I have to be creative about and save $$$

One room at a time! Smiles.
I like your blog, and I know what you mean by needing to keep swimming!
