The Scarlet Thread, by Francine Rivers
This book was pretty good. I like Francine’s style of writing, and the way she develops her characters, but in this book, I just didn’t like the characters. I have a hard time reading fiction where the main characters make really stupid choices.
Women who allow themselves to be verbally abused make me very angry. It was very hard for me to care about this couple – a pastor and his wife. Her unwillingness to stand up for what she knew to be right frustrated me so badly it was hard for me to continue reading sometimes. I think the only thing that kept me reading some of the time was the fact that I was getting up 2-3 times a night to feed Jack and needed something to do.
Overall, the story was pretty good. It was a long journey, and it ended well, which gives it most of its points, but if you have a ton of books to read, I wouldn’t start with this one.
